Personal pronouns in dative
A2 · Elementary · Cases & Verbs
The rule
mir, dir, ihm, ihr, ihm, uns, euch, ihnen.
How it works
The dative personal pronouns are mir, dir, ihm, ihr, uns, euch and ihnen. They replace the indirect object after verbs such as helfen, danken, geben and gefallen: Er hilft mir. Remember that ihm (to him or to it) and ihr (to her) are dative, while ihn and sie are accusative.
When to use it
Use mir, dir, ihm, ihr, uns, euch and ihnen as the indirect object.
Use cases

- Describing giving: Sie schenkt ihm ein Buch
